JARTS RTTY 2007 - 2007/10/19 14:57 Ce weekend c'est le JARTS en RTTY
Concours très populaire dont l'échange est RST + l'age de l'opérateur.
Les YL peuvent donner 00 et les stations multi-opr 99

I tried RTTY contesting first time in my life. I recently got RigExpert Plus Interface from VE3DZ. So I decided to take part in JARTS among other things I had to do at home.

Finally I have 264 QSO in my log for around 4-5 hours of working. It's really funny. But sometimes I found that RTTY can't decode very weak signals I could easily take in CW.

Bravo Claude! Très bonne resultat!

The weekend propagation was excellent! As it should be )) 15 and 10 meters were opened. I worked 21 DXCC only on 21 MHz with my vertical.

Le programme ne me permettait pas d'etre actif pour toute la duree du JARTS RTTY.
Le premier soir(vendredi) je ne suis pas venu sur le 80M pour les mults(Europe)donc aucun DX sur le 80....la visite ...partie trop tard...et ils avaient apporter du vin....en plus....
Le Samedi j'avais un fete d'enfants....My God....Ma tete.....
Le Samedi soir....la partie de Hockey...evidemment....meme si Phil pense que c'est arranger le hockey....
Le Dimanche pas grand chose au programme,,
J'ai pu faire quelques contacts..20 metres...15 metres...tres ouvert a ma grande surprise...aussi sur le 40....
Bcp de Ti-Counes,,,avec des KN....des Send...Pse Copy....mais faut faire avec....pas le choix....les macros d'un mille de long....des indicatifs repetees 6 fois....etc etc ..et j'en passe...
Pas trop de grandes ouvertures vers l'Asie....un peu mais courtes....
Le 40 metres assez bruyant...merci...et bcp de cw en plus....
Bref....J'aurais bien voulu faire autant que l'an dernier...mais les circonstances etaient differentes....

À 17:00h locales samedi je me suis echappé avec une petite excuse et j'ai donné quelques points pendant quelques minutes hihi.

can improve to have a better reception on RTTY.
Normally it's easy to decode very weak signals. Here I am using a DSP/TNC
allmode PTC-II for the main reception and TX and monitoring with
N1MM on another screen. Sometimes, one sys decode what the other dont
but normally I prefer my SCS PTC-II.

Good result for a first contest, you will love that I am sure, relaxing and
different from CW. I am ready for ARRL SS CW.

By the way, did not hear anything on 10m here.

J-P I was using my vertical since I still don't have anything else )). Was running Yaesu FT-1000 and AL-80B ( 500-600 watts) N1MM + MTTY as a contest software.

Claude, thanks for your advices. I'm sure RTTY RX could be really improved. As that was for the first time I was using just default settings as a real dummy ))).

I heard a few USA stations on 10 but I wasn't TX since my vertical works very poor on that band.

Sure RTTY it's not bad. I was doing my free lance programming work and running CQ JARTS in the same time)))

I have just one question. My copy of N1MM doesn't produce proper RTTY signal when I switch to the RTTY mode. So I use N1MM in LSB mode. How can I compensate 2125 (or other) Hz shift to have the proper RTTY frequency indication to use data from the DX cluster? Otherwise it differs on a shift value.

The only way I found to use the DX cluster is to use FSK instead of AFSK. In FSK, youre getting (or should be getting) right on freq which was not the case in AFSK at least in my experiece. But, I am no RTTY expert, even though I am getting more on it. Jean-Pierre VA2SG - VE2SSS
