2014 CQWW VHF Contest - 2014/07/14 20:43 Bonjour/Hi,

I will be operating CQ WW VHF contest this Saturday July 19 from Mount Hereford in the Eastern Townships as a multi-op portable station.

Mount Hereford is locator FN45eb with elevation 863m ASL.
We will have 150 watts 6m SSB and CW with 5 el beam, also 160 watts on 2m SSB with 14 el beam and will operate on both bands simultaneously.

We will be using call-sign VE2NGH and will operate from 18:00 UTC until at least 23:00 UTC; maybe longer if the bands are open.

Please look for us and hope to cu on the air!

Mont Hereford is a nice place to operate from. Not many people on the summit, close to the US border, an easy drive to the summit and lots of room to set up. Downside - many many deerflies! 6 meters started to open a bit after 19:00 UTC, and we had small pile-ups but it suddenly closed down after 21:00 UTC. It started to get a bit cold on the mountain and very cloudy so we started to pack up around 22:00 UTC.
2 meter band was very disappointing.
This is the second time we operated VHF portable on a mountain-top with all battery power and it was very enjoyable. Thanks very much Eamon & Dan for the fantastic team effort!

Today I operated as VA2EN single-op for about one hour at my home QTH.

CallSign Used : VA2EN

Default Exchange : FN35

       Band  Mode  QSOs    Pts  Grd

      Total  Both     4      4    2

           Score : 8

The propagation was all to the south and west of us here in VE2.
Thanks Gilles, Victor, Jimmy, Vittorio for the contacts!
