Tower installation on South Shore - 2007/03/19 15:19 Bonjour à tou le forum,

I'm planing to install self-supported tower. I live in Boucherville on South Shore.

Is anybody has experienced with a local municipal regulation regards that?

Should I apply to a municipality or just install a tower in accordance with some regulation document?

Re:Tower installation on South Shore - 2007/03/19 17:01 Hello Victor
When I was in Ste-Julie, 91-96, had a Delhi DMXHD48 and never had
any problem with the municipality. Dont know if things have changed,
I hope not for you. Good luck.

Re:Tower installation on South Shore - 2007/03/19 18:03 Hi Victor,
what I would do is look around first to see different installations from local OMs in your area. Then knock on the door of the tallest tower owner and ask him if he has had any problems. If not just pick a weekend when the city people don't work and put it up, kind of like...it has been there forever. If no towers and antennas present in your city then better call up city hall on a thursday (payday) or a friday, never on a monday no no no!!! and ask if regulations are provided for installing a tower. Be as nice and charming as you can be of course.
How tall will it be anyways?
Bye,

Re:Tower installation on South Shore - 2007/03/26 00:03 Hi Victor,

Sorry to answer late to your posting.

I Have installed a 22m tower + 2.5m mast this summer at Ile-Bizard.

I have followed exactly the procedure described on the RAC website and in addition, as a RAC member, have asked several questions via e-mails to the RAC directors. They were a very good help and very serious in the way they have given me the right answers and judiciously advised me. They have also done a review of my documents before me to send them to the municipality.

The RAC/Industry Canada procedure is a hard job to do, there are many items, including detailed documentation and letter to neighbours (those within a perimeter equal to 3 times the height of the tower) and municipality, security code 6 calculations (bioeffects),ect...

It is important to understand that you have a legal obligation to inform the neighbours and the municipality prior to your installation (this is the goal of the procedure), but you do not need any clearance from them.
It is also very important to understand that if you do no respect the procedure, Industry Canada can (after a neighbour complaint) ask you to definitively take down your tower and you could be unable to raise one again later.

I have founded that very frustrating to be obliged to manage that information campaign, but I must admit that it was a very good thing, because when the tower was erected, nobody was surprised or upset and now I am in good relationship with my neighbours.

I have also decided to have a meeting with municipality inspector to explain  my project rather than sending the documentation by the post. The result is that I have got a “non opposition letter” from the municipality.

In addition, as the tower is over 20m high, I have had to get a clearance from Transports Canada and Navcanada.

Good luck

Re:Tower installation on South Shore - 2007/04/12 15:12 Gilles,

Thanks a lot for your advices. I'll contact RAC to have all necessary documents. Anyway I'm not going to raise up something higher then 20 meters. Also my neighbors are so close to me that I can install just something small like Force12 S3SS with the turn radius less then 5 meters.

Thank you other guys for your support)))))

Re:Tower installation on South Shore - 2007/07/09 20:18 Hello Victor

The best way to make it, ask Municipalité de Boucherville for rules about towers and how much high you can put antenna.

Here in Verchères, 15 meter with the antenna included, about minimum 3 feets from the house.

Remember Sylvain VE2PXP saga in Varennes.

May be i'm late for the post, give some new about it.

Ciao! from Daniel ve2dsb dah dit dah!

   * L'installation d'une piscine hors terre et accessoires;
   * L'installation d'un appareil de filtration de piscine;
   * La construction d'une clôture;
   * La construction d'une allée ou d'un espace de stationnement;

     *****  L'installation d'une antenne parabolique ou autre *****

* La plantation d'une haie ou d'un arbre espèces prohibées);
   * La construction d'une remise de jardin d'une superficie inférieure à 10 m2 (normes particulières dans le Vieux-Boucherville);
   * L'installation d'un aménagement paysager et toute construction sur un terrain privé;
   * Le niveau sonore toléré pour les appareils de filtration de piscine, de climatisation ou d'échange thermique;
   * L'installation d'un abri d'auto temporaire;
   * L'installation d'un réservoir ou d'une bouteille extérieure de gaz propane.

It is recommended that you use the RAC approach as mentioned....a big pain in the butt!, but you will be "protected".....

My pal Claudio VE2DWA used the RAC guidelines, and also applied for a permit from the Ville de Gatineau...

He has a lot of crazy stories to tell!
