WTRC - 2008/03/17 07:03 WRTC Canada: Dead Heat Between VE3DZ and VE3AT; VA7ST With Big Lead Out West

By Jamie Dupree NS3T, radio-sport.net

With three strong finishes in the 2007 WAE SSB, IARU and CQ WPX Contests, Ron Vader Kraats VE3AT piled up just enough points to catch Yuri Onipko VE3DZ, as the two Ontario hams find themselves tied in one of Canada's two WRTC qualifying regions.

While VE3AT and VE3DZ have no light between them, the situation is the exact opposite out west, as Bud Mortenson VA7ST added almost a thousand points, extending his lead over Larry Brailean VE5UA to almost 1900 points.

The Russian qualifying criteria give Canada a pair of teams for the 2010 competition. The Canadian winners of the 2006 WRTC event, John Sluymer VE3EJ and Jim Roberts VE7ZO will draw an invite as the defending world champs.

After crunching the numbers, here are the top five operators from Canada's two WRTC regions as found by radio-sport.net. Check the link for a full spreadsheet on each region.

NA #5 includes VO1, VY2, VE1, VE2, VE3, VE4, VO2 and VE9.

VE3DZ 5,348 - (8 scores)

VE3AT 5,348 - (8 scores)

VE3EJ 3,873 - (8 scores)

VE3EY 3,257 - (8 scores)

VE2XAA 3,068 - (8 scores)

NA #6 is VE5, VE6, VE7, VE8, VY0 and VY1.

VA7ST 4,805 - (8 scores)

VE5UA 2,931 - (4 scores)

4 tied at 2,245: VA7AO, VA7OO, VA7VZZ, VE7GL

The full results are available on a spreadsheet for NA #6

While the NA #5 race has a number of contenders, NA #6 so far has been dominated by only VE7ST and VE5UA.

The unofficial results produced by radio-sport.net include the final published results of the 2006 and 2007 IARU, the 2006 and 2007 WAE CW and WAE SSB, the 2006 CQWW CW and SSB contests, the 2007 ARRL DX SSB & CW, the 2007 Russian DX and the 2007 CQ WPX SSB contests.

(Radio-sport.net has tried to be as accurate as possible. If you find a mistake, or that your score line is missing a contest result, please send us an email and we will be happy to check and correct the numbers.)

The qualifying rules allow you to submit your top eight scores from certain contests. No more than four may be from multi-operator efforts.

You will note that some scores in the spreadsheets have been colored in. All multi-ops are noted with a yellow background. Scores from a contest operation outside of your home WRTC region are colored in blue.

A score that was both outside your home region and from a multi-op has a purple color.
