Re:WAE CW 2008 - 2008/08/10 20:11 I didn't have time at all. Our friends from NJ visited us. Anyaway I tried to give a few points to WAE contesters. BTW I did first time QTC exchange. That's really funny ))

Re:WAE CW 2008 - 2008/08/10 21:02 Hi everyone...

Found It was harder when underneath there was either ve2tzt or xaa calling !
Sorry but my back was not in shape after the week at work, to handle a 4hours of sitting ! With this type of condition...the repeat button was handy.

Welcome to the WAE Victor ... if you missed the CW ...SSB one is coming !
and the RTTY is even more fun you can also receive QTCs ...when the other party understand who is Receiving and who is Transmitting the QTC !!

Comments:

YES Conditions Terrible
Had no good antennas for 40 and 80
Was lucky to solve 40M RF problem for 100W in the first hour of the contest.
Had to use my limited 300W for 80M...
Eventualy after few hours Low Power was much of a stuggle.
So switch the TV back on for the olympic coverage !

Just happy was able to find DR1A on 40m before the end of contest for 5 band
QSO. F5IN loudest signal on 28Mhz 599 plus missed another easy 5 band QSO.

RIG: FT-1000MP MKV FIELD, 300W(80m)
Ant: A3S, G5RV 160-80-40
MicroKeyer II, and WIN-TEST V3.22

Very good training for ears and motivation.
For 3 weeks, I am trying to fix a permanent  59+ all bands power line problem on an insulator 300 feet from the tower, of course, in the direction of Europe.
Thursday a RFI guy of HydroQuebec  came and made a fragile temporary fix, waiting the construction team.
So, I thought I was lucky for this unexpected participation to the CW WAE this WE.
Of course, Sunday night, the power line noise came back, stopping me for the night, until noon when it stopped.
On Sunday afternoon, I had to nest the tower for half an hour because of lightning all around.
During the 25 possible hours of participation, the high K index was competing against the storm crunches to know which one is the worst.
So, thank you so much to all the European operators who had to repeat sometimes more than 10 times their callsign or NR to give their weak signal the luck to pass between two lightning crunches...And thank to some, like 9A/S53AU/P, to make the training more challenging with their sophisticated callsign...
By the way, on 40m, I was never able to use the 2el beam for receiving. The 160m beverage was the only solution, and even on 20m, I sometimes had to listen on the beverage.
Strangely, I have a pleasant recollection of this experience. Perhaps the fact that I had time to sleep and that I finish very well rested.
The only fly in the ointment: I prefer never know my UBN for this contest...

Would be nice to have Morse Runner compatable with WAE on EU side hi.
What's that QRP Jean-Pierre? Now we know we can find you on 14040?
