ARRL International DX Contest CW 2009 - 2009/02/20 13:20The ARRL International DX Contest (CW) is starting tonight. I've seen a number DX-peditions have been prepared for the test.
I'll be working as SOAB HP. Unfortunately I can't work in the test full time. I have recently changed my job. The old one company has gone due crisis losses. And almost everybody has been fired right before the Xmass. Hopefully I'm a senior sysadmin now in the new one company. And I have to do a lot of things during the weekend besides contesting.
So I wish good luck to everyone who will join the show)))

Re:ARRL International DX Contest CW 2009 - 2009/02/22 20:16Ohh man! What was a nice contest! That was real joy to work JA, AU-OC, EU, SA and AF in the same time! I'm really sorry I couldn't be all 48 hours up!
ARRLDXCW Score Summary Sheet
Start Date : 2009-02-21
CallSign Used : VA2WDQ Operator(s) : VA2WDQ
Operator Category : SINGLE-OP-ASSISTED Band : ALL Power : HIGH Mode : CW Overlay Category : TB-WIRES Default Exchange : QC
ARRL Section : QC Club/Team : Contest Group du Quebec Software : N1MM Logger V8.11.0
I heard during the contest : VE2TZT, VE2FK, VE2AXO, VA2AM and VE2XAA.
After uploading the contest log to my main logging program (DX-Base) I found that I worked 100 DXCC on 160m! The DXCC D4 and IS0 became #99 and #100 accordingly)))) The 160m was exceptional! DX stations were loud and clear. And it was so easy to work almost every DX I've heard even with my modest setup. Unfortunately 10m band was dead here in snowy Montreal . The 15m band was opened only to south NA, SA and western AF except 2 small openings to south EU.

Re:ARRL International DX Contest CW 2009 - 2009/02/22 21:46Bravo Victor. Over 1K QSO is always a big job. Too bad I did not had more time to do it seriously. Only S&P, no RUN this time. Signals from EUrope were so loud at time. Louis you are doing well with only dipoles, bravo.

Antennas: Inverted L (12 meter vertical, 26 horizontal) w/ 8 x 1/4 wave radials buried in three feet of snow
PC: Pentium 1 166 Mhz running CT 10.04 DOS.
Comments:
As it was to be a busy and very social weekend with only few hours for the radio, I've entered SO HP 160 (after the great cndx that we had in CQ 160 CW and as preparation for CQ 160 SSB next weekend) only part-time and I have a lot of fun indeed.
I spent 99% of my time operated S&P (turning the dial), because without RX antenna and with snow falling almost all the weekend, it was very difficult run stations (sorry to that ones I couldn't copy you answering my CQs but the static noise was very high at my location)
OM3GI was the loudest EU signal (great RX too) and I've copied him all night long, for the first time I've worked more than 15 G stations in a 160 meter contest. EA8ZS was very loud also, PJ2T & PV8AA (a new one for me) were the loudest SA, but I was very happy working my buddies @ CW5W for a mult, only 2 KH6 in the log but none AS. Very few stations with bad click, but a very loud K8.. was really bad. I've heard VA2AM and VE2TZT in the contest.
Quelques point pour CGQ..
