To give you an idea of the states/provinces reached:

CT, DE, GA, IL, IN, MA(5), MD(2), ME, MI(2)
MS, NB(3), NC, NH(3), NJ(6), OH, ON(5), PA(6)

K5GDX in MS at a distance of 2365 km was the farthest station reached.

Phone operation is more challenging on this band for the little pistols.
My low horizontal antenna with its high launching angle and high
ground absorption is not very effective for long distance QSOs.

I heard a station from Texas that explained to an east coast station
how local weather conditions there made the band noisy for him.

I had an activity saturday night that restricted my operating time.

Had fun operating SSB on this band.

This was my first serious participation tentative for this ssb contest but during the first night around 3.00 am local I decided to give up.

The reason : it is not a world wide contest, it is a local qso party.
Everybody is calling with or without decent RX, 70 percent of people running are crocodiles.
The result is a permanent ''CQ without answer shield'' covering the interesting DX stations. I do not count the weak dx's I was able to hear but not to copy because covered by a crocodile and I do not count the number of not so far callers I was hearing strong and who were not able to hear me.
In my opignion when you are not able to listen decently, you do not call CQ.

Then, this ssb contest turn out to be a sort of qso party where Mr everybody calls CQ ''just for the fun'' preventing the real contest to take place.

Not for me thank you.

The only interesting thing is that I have tested during the 9 hours the wintest software voice keying feature, it seems to work very well and I am happy to be able to save my voice in the future.

Re:CQ WW 160 SSB 2012 - 2012/02/29 08:52 Gilles a bien raison, le 160m c'est spécial. J'ai quelques fois participé en CW avec une simple dipole de 80/40m et 100w. Heureusement j'ai une bonne réception et j'appelais juste les signaux forts. Mais comment de fois j'ai entendu des DX appeler des stations américaines sans réponse... Ajouter l'interférence du SSB en plus et c'est le bordel.

Je serai QRV 160m l'automne prochain.

En CW on peut toujours se faufiler, en SSB c'est plus difficile vu l'espace que chaque signal occupe sur la bande.

Je suis tout à fait d'accord avec Gilles. Combien de stations avec d'énormes signaux appellent "ad nauseam" alors qu'elles ne peuvent même pas recevoir de façon décente.

J'essayais une telle station vendredi et le mieux que j'ai pu escompter est une légère pause dans son appel dû à la détection de mon signal mais sans réslutat.

Quand j'ai vu que j'avais fait le tour vendredi soir je n'ai pas hésité à accepter une invitation à souper samedi et ne pas m'acharner outre mesure.

Je suis content d,avoir participé quand même mais aussi de ne pas y avoir mis trop d'énergie.

J'adore l'expression "crocodile".
