The ARRL DX SSB contest is coming up this weekend. I wonder how many of you will participate.
We will once again run as a Multi-Single operation using call VE2NGH. Our operators will be myself, VA2UTC, VA2SH, VE2OFH, and we have a guest contester from Denmark VE2OXA/OZ7AM who will also be with us. We plan to operate the full 48hrs. Even though the solar flux has taken a dive lately let's hope that we have some good openings.

I will have only few hours for the ARRL SSB. But anyway I'll try to find you out!
BTW: I've got a licence for a special call sign VC2W during CQ WPX SSB/CW 2012. What about using it as M/S during next WPX? I don't have good antennas for SSB and can't use HP for SSB because of RFI to my neighbors.

Nothing special except that the propagation was poor compared to last year specially on 10m. I heard Victor WA, Louis EZD and the VE2NGH group. No opening to JA with my hours of operation. DX not really rare.

The sun was not very kind to us this time around. Propagation was very poor on 10m and 20m was a surprising disappointment. The band of choice was 15m. 40m was extremely crowded as usual with many stations working split. I beleive we got one JA station on 15m and managed a ZL on 10m but that was it for the exciting DX. Let's hope the sun picks up for WPX.

Heard Dany, VE2EBK, Lois VE2EZD and the VE2NGH "gangs" ))) Didn't have time at all. Spent just few morning hours before left my home and few hours on Friday night. I tried to "raise up" a run and got few good on 15m and once on 20m with a rate more then 160 Q/H with a local rate (10 minutes) up to 320. Did a S&P for less then 1 hour. The propagation was not the best. The best band was 15m. There was not easy to get run on 20m. Anyway the contest activity there was great as usual.

Ce concours fut une occasion por tester mon radio d'expédition pour le prochain Field Day. J'ai donc utilisé mon TS-570D(G) au lieu de mon FT-950 et un petit ordinateur notebook Aspire One roulant N1MM.
Les résultats sont concluants et le TS-570D(G) s'est très bien défendu.
A chance to test my backup/expedition radio under contest conditions. The computer was an Aspire One notebook computer running N1MM. Everything went very well.

De mon côté, j’ai testé mon nouveau IC-746Pro et MK II (usagé dans les 2 cas) justement en prévision de l’IOTA Contest en juillet. Mise à part du RF dans l’audio dû à un mauvais stapping dans le MK, que j’avais corrigé la veille, tout à bien fonctionner moi aussi.
J’attends un relais vacuum pour mon FL-2100Z et je serai prêt pour ce qui est de la partie radio. Restera les antennes à finaliser. Il faut toujours chercher à s'améliorer d'année en année.

Ici j'ai modifié l'affichage du TS-570D(G) pour passer des petites ampoules, qui génèrent de la chaleur et gaspillent de l'énergie pour rien, à des leds bleues. Tant qu'à y être je me suis dit pourquoi ne pas l'essayer cette fin de semaine pour l'ARRL DX Phone. Puis samedi tout allait tellement bien que j'ai transféré dans mon notebook Aspire One le fichier *.mdb de N1MM de l'ordinateur principal. A part l'écran très petit tout a très bien fonctionné. En plus j'ai acheté une alimentation spécialisée qui passe directement du 13,8Vdc au 19 Vdc nécessaire à l'Aspire One. Difficile de faire plus compact comme installation.
Il y a quelques années j'avais même monté le TS-570D(G) a sommet du Gros Morne à Ste-Clotilde. On était à pieds dans le cadre d'une activité RAQEM (Radio Amateur du Québec en Montagne). En plus c'est avec le Kenwood que j'ai fait mes Field Day solo.
Quand les cours sont terminés en juin j'apporte mon Kenwood au cégep et sur l'heure du midi je fais quelques QSO avec une antenne alimentée par l'extrémité de ma conception.
