Congratulations Victor on your fantastic score on 3-bands! Your new antenna seems to be playing very well. How high is your tower?
Just a great contest! This was the best propagation I have seen so far. It was better than 2011 since the low bands were very quiet and performed very well due to the low Ap. 40m was just a zoo and was open to the Middle-East. I even loaded my sloper on 160m to give that band a try for the first time. Friday night I had a big pile-up on 80m for over 1 hour. I know people were hearing me and it was frustrating not to hear them. I was very tempted to run out and install a Beverage-on-ground temporarily for the night-time on my street next to the sidewalk! I must work on ways to improve my 80m reception given my small property size.
Hydro line noise was causing some problems as well as the lady next door who said her TV's were turning on by themselves! The little kids upstairs were having great fun with our voices going through their electronic piano! I also had to do some quick fixes to cure TVI for the tenant upstairs who was trying to watch the World Series.
The TH-7 antenna was also giving problems on 15m. Ever since I installed the replacement traps the antenna is not performing as well as before. My decision is made: save my money for a SteppIR!
All the above caused a big reduction on our rates. We were hoping to make at least 3500 contacts. 10m was just beautiful. We were running just after 8AM until well past 2PM and then after 5PM Sunday, 10m and 15m opened up like crazy to the NW. We had huge JA pile-ups and we got DU's, YB's, China and even an XW (Laos). We even worked VE2IM on 2 bands - thanks Yuri.
Let's hope propagation will be as good as this for the ARRL 10m contest. CU in the ARRL Sweeps-SSB.
