Re:BERU 2009 - 2009/02/05 06:46 Subject: 2009 Canadian BERU Team so far -- Feb 05

Folks

Below are the names of those who have stated they intend to be members of the Canadian BERU team:

Definite:    VO1TA, VO1HP, VE3QAA, VE3EJ, VE1RGB, VE2FK, VE3KI (at VE3RM)

Are there others on this distribution list who wish to confirm.?  We would like up to 10 names to form a full team.

Please let me know if I have missed any members.

First three responders take the empty slots!!

Re:BERU 2009 - 2009/02/10 18:49 Alexey, thanks for your offer.
The Canadian team is compleate with 10 members but I am sure we need spare stations just in case someone can not be on.

Re:BERU 2009 - 2009/03/02 08:10 For N1MM users during the BERU CW contest, you will have to use CTRL/ALT/ENT
to force all canadian callsign into log. Or use a spécial WL_CTY.DAT file made by
Rich/VE3KI. I have the file if someone need.
73, Claude
----------------------------
Hi Claude,

Your understanding of the rules is correct.

Using the standard WL_CTY.DAT file, you would have to force-log (Ctrl-Alt-Enter) all contacts with Canadian stations, and you would have to send the final message in each QSO using function keys instead of ESM. This would be a major pain.

You can make things easier by making a special version of WL_CTY.DAT that has an added "country" for every Canadian call area except your own (for your own call area, you need to keep the original Canada entry). You will still have to force-log QSOs with the HQ station in your call area (VA2RAC in your case), but you will at least be able to work other Canadian stations outside your call area. You can also make the multiplier window work better by removing all non-Commonwealth countries, by combining G, GM, GW, GI, GD, GI, GJ, GU into a single country, and by splitting up Australia, New Zealand and South Africa into separate call areas.

A couple of other hints for N1MM: N1MM will not get the scoring right, and it won't give you the right bonus ("multiplier") status either. I believe it will force you to reload the modified WL_CTY.DAT file every time you start it up. Whether it does or not, remember to reload the normal WL_CTY.DAT file before the next contest. Also, make sure you turn Call History Lookup off for this contest.

Claude, I will send you a modified WL_CTY.DAT file, designed to work from VE2, by separate e-mail. I have one made up for VE3, and it wouldn't be hard to do other versions for N1MM users in other call areas - anyone who wants one can just drop me an e-mail at ve3iay@gmail.com.

As for myself, I will most likely use SDC this time around. I've tried it out with my Winkeyer and it seems to work quite well. Its bandmap and Super Check Partial aren't as good as N1MM's (I suspect its SO2R isn't as good either, but I haven't tried that), but for the BERU contest those features aren't as important as they would be in a contest like CQ WW DX. It will take a bit of practice to get used to the way it works, but I think it will be easier to use than trying to work around N1MM's deficiencies for this particular contest.

Rich VE3KI

Subject: [canada_contest] N1MM for BERU

Anyone have tested N1MM for BERU contest?
It wont let me contact any VE VA not even VA2RAC.

If my understanding is ok, I can not work VA2/VE2 but VA2RAC HQ is ok
and all other Canadians?

Re:BERU 2009 - 2009/03/15 13:11 I've made few contacts during yesteday's BERU test:

CATEGORY-OVERLAY: OPEN
CATEGORY-OVERLAY: 12H

       Band  Mode  QSOs    Pts  Cty
        3.5  CW      24     120    7
          7  CW      99     495   11
         14  CW     124     640   17
         21  CW       4      20    4
      Total  Both   251    1275   39

Time on: 6.4 hrs.

RIG: Yaesu FT-1000, AL-80B (750w)
ANT: 2 el. MQ-26, Inv.L

I don't know what's the score because  I feel my N1MM (ver.9.3) counts wrong score))) There was good activity. I think that was much better then was one year ago. I heard few exchanges up to 800 close to the end.

It was very nice to work few DX: V5, ZD8, VP8K. That was so nice to work VK6 on 40 meters right afternoon during daylight time. I heard VE2FK CQ-ing BERU once on 40m and met VE2XAA on 40m.

73!

Victor
