Re:ARRL 160 CW - 2009/12/06 13:05That was Casual operation. Was working low power due a RFI issue. I have finally resolved that. Also I did some work on improving grounding for my Inverted L. So that was nice to test 160m band before RAC Winter Contest.
That was nice to meet a big number of VE2/VA2 contesters: VA2EW, VE2FK, VE2DWA, VA2AM, VE2OJ, VE2XAA, VE2AWR. We missed Fabi cause he always prefers RTTY test to others)))) The top band propagation was very good. I worked few DX stations (KH6, EU, Caribbean) very easy even by using LP! I guess Gilles has a nice result since his station is very good especially on 160-80)))
Class: Single Op HP QTH: Montreal Operating Time (hrs): 30
Summary: Total: QSOs = 1528 Sections = 79 Countries = 49 Total Score = 470,656
Club: C Group du Quebec
Comments:
The only changed things from last year were the new callsign and the far better propagation conditions from previous years. Guess which one is responsible for this best ever personal score. Saturday night was a real fun with at a the best time, one JA station calling in the left ear and one EU station calling at the same time in the right ear of the K3 headset in diversity mode. The JA was perfectly clear and strong, not the smallest flutter or noise: crystal clear propagation !
Sunday was more average.
One developing bad practice: more and more guys are S&Ping on second RX while supervising ``they`` run frequency. Then, the frequency seems unused, you can listen several tens of seconds without any signal and when you send QRL ? a burst of CQ is sent. If you stay, after this CQ, again the frequency come back to silence for tens of seconds. You can play to this game a long time before the guy realises that it is the same person who send the QRL?'s and restarts the CQ seriously. I find this behaviour really egoist and unfair.
Sometimes I need to find the good beverage before being able to read correctly the caller and with ``deregulation`` of US callsigns I am often lead to switch in the wrong direction (W2 being in CA etc...).
Many thanks to all the callers especially to ones I asked for many repeats.

Re:ARRL 160 CW - 2009/12/06 18:43Un gros bravo Gilles. Que d'endurange, 30 devant la radio faut le faire. J'ai hâte d'avoir une bonne antenne pour le 160m car j'ai une bonne réception, j'entends bien le DX. T'avais un signal très QRO, un des plus fort.

Re:ARRL 160 CW - 2009/12/07 11:46ARRL 160 Meter Contest 2009
Call: VE2DWA Category: Single Operator Power: High Power Band: Mono 160 Mode: CW Section: QC
QSO QSO PTS PTS/QSO SECTIONS COUNTRIES
Totals 317 727 2.29 63 16 = 57,433
Club COmpetition: Contets Group du Quebec
All reports sent were 599 QC, unless otherwise noted.
Equipment Description: Yaesu FT-1000D, Ten Tec Titan
Antenna: Inverted L w/16 x 1/8 WL radials, Inverted vee @ 40 feet (to work the locals), EU Beverage 500 feet (I need to improve the antenna, but it is working)
PC Pentium 1 166 MHz (DOS), Software CT 10.04
Operation time :<6Hs
As during Thursday I was installing my new beverage on the snow and temperatures well below zero degree celsuis, on Friday I woke up with a very bad cold, getting worse during the weekend (I have buzz on my ears), therefore my operation was a very limited time, mostly to test my new EU beverage (I need to improve its performance, but it is working) and test the diversity RX in the FT-1000D and I was amazing how it works.
I've worked VA2WDQ, VA2EW (I preffer your TZT call Gilles), VE2OJ, VE2DC and heard VE2XAA and VE2AWR... QC was well represented in the contest.
Merci pour les QSOs. See you in ARRL 10 meter.
