BERU 2009 - 2009/01/15 15:25 For your info: From the Canada-Contest reflector.
----------------------------------------------------------

Anyone interested in putting together a team for the upcoming BERU contest? We need up to 10 stations per team and Canada can have more than one team so if someone wants to start a regional rivalry then perhaps someone in central and western Canada can put together teams and I'll handle the east coast. Anyway, Dave VO1AU is unable to participate or captain a team so I thought I'd put the word out. I plan on operating the VO1RAC HQ station again so I'd like to see a few more of the RAC calls in operation as well.

Let me know ASAP so we can get things rolling. Remember, this is CW only so if you're a bit rusty, this is a good way to knock the rust off HI.

73 -- Paul VO1HE

------------------------------------
One thing to remember, if someone is operating under VA2RAC HQ call he can not be part of a team.

Re:BERU 2009 - 2009/01/15 17:20 More info from Rich/VE3KI
---------------------------------
Some additional info:

The rules for the BERU are at <http://www.vhfcc.org/hfcc/rules/2009/rberu.shtml>.

There are two types of special station or team involved here.

1. As the national society, RAC is allowed to put one HQ station on the air from each of Canada's 14 call areas (VE1-VE9, VO1-VO2 and VY0-VY2). We can use the RAC club calls for this purpose. Each HQ station sends the letters HQ after the serial number in the exchange. HQ stations count as a separate call area (I'd call it a multiplier, except there are no multipliers as such in the BERU), which means every contact with an HQ station gets bonus points. You can contact the HQ station in your own call area, e.g. other VO1 stations can contact the VO1RAC HQ station for bonus points (except for this special case, other VO1-to-VO1 contacts are zero-pointers). HQ stations are listed in the results together with stations in the multi-op category, regardless of whether they are operated by one person or by a group.

To be authorized to use one of the RAC call signs, you must contact the RAC Director in your region. The call signs are to be issued by Directors to RAC members on a first-come first-served basis. I believe using an RAC call sign rules you out as a member of a team, since HQ stations are considered to be in the multi-op category.

2. Separately from the above, Canada can enter one or more teams of up to 10 members. All members of a team must enter the contest in a single-operator unassisted category. Each team needs a captain.

So, any takers?

Rich VE3KI

Waiting confirmation.
Any suggestion?
More details later.

Re:BERU 2009 - 2009/01/19 08:28 From VO1HE via Canada-Contest reflector:
OK, we have some action.

So far we have VO1TA, VO1HP, VE5SF (who may operate VE5RAC), VE1RGB, VE3EJ, VE2FK (with a possible PQ team) and possibly VE3KI. Who wants to be captain?

I guess the easiest thing to do is have one team if I get up to 10 respondants and have more than one team, perhaps East/West teams, if more than 10 respond.

I wonder if we can put a team together of all RAC stations

---------------------------------------------

If anyone interesting to be part of a team let me know.
Waiting for confirmation to use VA2RAC but this is not part of the team.

Hi Claude,

I will submit your request to the Board next week. There shouldn't be any problem.

------------------------------------------------------

The latest news...

Definite:    VO1TA, VO1HP, VE3QAA, VE3EJ, VE1RGB

Possibles:    VE3KI, VE5CPU, VE3FU, VE5SF (either team or RAC stn)

RAC ops:    VO1RAC (VO1HE), VA2RAC (VE2FK), VA3RAC (VE3KZ)

Thanks -- Paul

Si quelqu'un peut organiser une station MULTI-OPS  pour opérer VA2RAC
ce serait parfait et je pourrais alors joindre le Team Canada

73 de Claude VE2FK
----------------------------
HQ stations compete as multi-ops in the BERU. The BERU rules say that
multi-op stations are limited to a single transmitted signal
(<http://www.vhfcc.org/hfcc/rules/2009/rberu.shtml>, rule 2(c)). I believe
this pretty much rules out distributed multi-ops.

Re:BERU 2009 - 2009/01/22 10:26 So far VE2AWR is first  on the list to do VA2RAC but the ideal situation would be a QRO multi-ops station doing HQ. I will be part of Team Canada

As of Jan 22...

Definite:    VO1TA, VO1HP, VE3QAA, VE3EJ, VE1RGB, VE2FK

Possibles:    VE3KI, VE5CPU, VE3FU, VE5SF (either team or RAC stn), VE3DZ

RAC ops:    VO1RAC (VO1HE), VA2RAC (VE2AWR), VA3RAC (VE3KZ)

That makes 11 potential team members so we'll see what happens.

Any West Coast ops interested??

Re:BERU 2009 - 2009/01/26 18:48 Info from Paul/VO1HE via Canada Contest Reflector
----------------------------------------------------------

Further to this, Frank VO1HP has accepted the role of team Captain so any further info can go to him. Keep me in the loop though HI

Good luck to all on the team and I'll be looking for you on the bands.

Re:BERU 2009 - 2009/01/27 13:59 Hi Claude,

You can use VA2RAC during the BERU contest. I thought we were allowed to only only official call for this contest but I was wrong. Each region of the country can use its RAC call.

So good luck in the contest and 73

Pour le moment, l'opr. de VA2RAC pour le BERU 2009 sera Serge/VE2AWR
à moins qu'un groupe opérant MM/QRO se manifeste avant le 28 février.
