New mini Quad antenna - 2007/11/01 10:58 I have installed the new one antenna on my backyard. It's MQ-26 from TGMC. Actually it gives plus 1.5-2 S-meter degrees on 20m if compare to my vertical HF2V. It's as better as frequency higher. But the most beautiful thing is that noise gone down!

Pictures:

Bandwidth (SWR < 2):

20m 70 kHz
17m 80 kHz
21m 200 kHz
24m whole band
10m 600 kHz (!!)
6m 300 kHz with tuner (without tuner SWR 2.8)

F/B 2-3 S-meter degrees (It's not the best he..-he..)
Front - to-90 deg -6-7 S-meter degrees

I have it turned to cover CW part of bands.

73!

Re:New mini Quad antenna - 2007/11/01 14:59 Congratulations Victor.
I am sure you will have fun with it specially if you have a better reception.
Let us know after a contest how it is compared with the vertical.

Merci Claude )))

I have it tested in UKRAINIAN DX Contest last Sunday. The mini-quad has beaten my vertical with a great success. Some station from UR hadn't even answered me on vertical and I had an "one-call" QSO by switching to MQ. Reception is much clear on MQ and louder on apx. 1-1.5 S-meter degree on 20 meters. 15m and 10m were closed that time. I was working LP to feel antennas performance better. The result is totally 109 QSOs. I did around 70 QSOs on 20m and I have a couple dozens QSOs on CQ.

I understand that it's a small size antenna made with a big compromise and couldn't be compared to a full sized yagi. Anyway I found in reviews that some HAMs consider that could be compared to a small size beam like Cushcraft A3S with close results.

Actually I have removed HF2V already. Now I'm working on 160-80-40 meters band antenna. I got much better results on 80m band now. Hope to have 40 and 160 later on this week.

Re:New mini Quad antenna - 2007/11/07 11:18 Hello Victor.
Yes, it's fun to play with antennas.
For years I only had my TH-2 (2 el.) and most of the time pointed
to EUrope since I could also work US on the back.  Now I have changed
to a TH-3MK4 and now I have to really point the antenna in the right direction.
And I am so surprised of the F/B, much less noise also when pointed on EU
since the village QRN is in the back.  I may re-install temporary the old TH-2, lower in the tower pointed/fixe on USA.
