RAC Winter 2011 - 2011/12/17 20:35Hi everybody, was in the contest for a couple hours only. Was a lot of fun but propagation wasn't very good this year. 73 Sanjay

The conditions last night were very noisy on 20 and 40m but 80m was a charm. At noon today, the conditions were not very good on 10 and 15m, just a few stations, really better this morning on the OK DX RTTY with many more stations (nearly exclusively in EU). Today 20m was really great and I had a great run of 88 for an hour. This evening 40 and 80m were really good, nearly no noise, good signals but my PTT broke and I haven't any spare, tried to repair it but it broke again so no SSB any till the end of the contest and it was too early for good CW on the low bands and on 20m I had worked all those I was hearing. So I could have done at least 50 to 75 more. Thanks the VE2 on the contest: VE2BVV, VE2HAY, VE2JCW, VE2POU, VE2QGL, VE2TFL, VE2EZD (with the help of Thomas), VE2NGH, VA2LSM, VA2OP and VA2WA. A great participation.

What a nice contest when you are the ones peaple are looking for.
I worked exclusively CW on friday night.
Saturday I was with Thomas and he is becoming more and more proficient. Not easy to master our technical terms but he learn very fast. I made some "cue" cards so I could help him tackling some situations like "QSO before" and so on. Thomas made most of the phone QSO.
We used the FT-950 optional DVS-6 (optional Voice Memory Unit) as a voice keyer. Wow! Phone contests at VE2EZD will never be the same again. I can access the DVS-6 voice messages, using N1MM Logger, through CAT commands.
Thanks to VE2FK (Claude), VA2OP (Sanjay), VE2SG (Stephane), VA2EU, VA2WA (Victor) VE2EUK and VE2FXL (Luc)
We had a lot of fun

This was my first participation in RAC Winter Contest. Truly a contest where running is the key - not much S&P here so I got some good practice. I chose Multi-Op category because VA2UTC and I were training two other amateurs (VE2OFH & VA2SH) in contesting. The more of us the better! Only a part-time effort though. We started too late for 10m but 15m and 20m were great. Thanks to all the VE2's for the QSO's!
I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and may the sun bring us some great propagation in the New Year!

I had just few hours for the test. Decided just to give scores to others. I was using my old Kenwood TS-830S with 100 watts only and without CAt. So S&P was really a pain )))
Got only VE2FXL and VE2EZD from CGQ into my log. Thanks for the all QSO's!
