Victor, thank God the low band antennas didn't work as planned ha ha, gives you room for even better results in the next one, great job!

Re:CQ WW CW 2013 - 2013/11/26 22:22 Still biting the dust.....
Victor is light years away as far as I am concerned....great job Victor.
The result of my participation is not spectacular but I am pleased to report that the grey cells seem to enjoy Morse code increasingly.  Having neglected CW for years really shows up.
"La facture!"
S&P mode only. About 14 hours, lot of listening.  Running 100 watts......for sure higher power would have saved time on many occasions.  Wish Santa Claus could come to the rescue on that one.
Used my VA2ES call sign and found out that the ending dit ditditdit got some attention in pileups.  Sure brought me points sooner on many occasions.
At speed above 25 PM, I often relied on Skimmer to validate whatever my grey cells had decoded. However, at times, Skimmer was not 100% correct initially and listening a bit longer showed that the op was right. Nice!  Not often but enough to make me realize that CW decoding speed and accuracy is improving. Great. Morse Runner must have something to do with it.....slow progress as we get older. Ouch.

So here is the score card.  No 160 antenna.

VA2ES  SOAB LP
QSOs QSO points Zones Countries Multipliers Score

80m:  30 63 7 12
40m: 113 305 16 47

Keep up the good work guys,

Re:CQ WW CW 2013 - 2013/11/28 15:58 Congratulations Victor, 4000+ Q`s is always a hard work especially with an incomplete antenna system. That is promising for the future.

This year I had too much work around the house to come correctly prepared to the contest season and additionnaly there was so much impossible to miss DXpeditions those past weeks that I decided to stay in the DX option. Then I just made 500+ Q`s as a Checklog mainly around the sunrises and sunsets mainly on 80 and 10m expecting some DXcalls but nothing unusual. Then the whole contest had provided few newones, just LU lotw confirmed on 160m and UP2L on 80m(Kazakstan). The greatest desappointment was hearing JT5DX 559 on 80m on my SR during a 10mn window and impossible to be heard, the guy mostly working JA`s !!!

I`ll try to be more serious for the comming ARRL 160m and 10m.

Re:CQ WW CW 2013 - 2013/11/28 20:53 I got UP2L on 80m and JT5DX on 40m but no way for 80m

This year there were many dx stations working split on 10m and I cannot blame them specially those from Africa. Some stations just kept sending their call signs like 5 time none stop...! One trick is to match his cw speed that he is looking for in the pile-up.
Some are great at 32 wpm and for my case I cannot with qrm...

Almost impossible to have a great 10m opening with good signals on 160m to match the contest week end. Flux index 8 was bad news for the top band on both days.

Now with flux level around 125-145 the 40m long path is a lot better than last year at +/-105 for a means of +10db signal improvement. I have not tested 15-20m LP.

Re:CQ WW CW 2013 - 2013/11/29 10:49 I've also worked UP2L on 80m (totally I worked him on 4 bands, except 160 and 10) and JT5DX on 40m.

I've heard CQ test RC9O (z18) with a huge signal on 80m. Many stations from NA called him but I never heard RC9O been replying to someone outside EU/AS. Looks like he has a great dis-balance between emission power and receiver ability to receive properly )))

So let's be prepared to ARRL-160. I'm afraid I'm going to skip ARRL-10m. May be some part-time participation.

73!
