Funny that Gilles best band was 15 and you 20m.

Hi Claude,

I prefer to run at least 60% of the time by working HP. Since run could bring  much higher rate usually it gives more 80% QSOs vs S/P in a log.  Since I'm working assisted I do some quick jump in the same band to work a new mult when I see some on a bandmap . Of course second radio on another band will change that style dramatically. "Pure S/P" when I browse the band by VFO is very rare and the only when run rate went down 80-70 q/h.

On LP the proportion is opposite. That makes no sense to run on LP except during some known good opening when propagation losses are minimal. Usually I can keep S/P rate up to 70-80 q/h which is not the best. There are a lot of tricks how to keep the S/P rate high even with LP. But that's all doesn't work in case of real bad propagation. In that case better to switch off the contest and to go for a few beers )))

I prefer to take different RUN frequency all the time. Since almost everybody in assisted category uses a cluster with RBN skimmer injection. They stop spotting a station if it's stays on the same frequency for a long time.

Since I still don't have a perfect antenna I don't use bi-directional. In my case every db has a great value. The good thing about my antennas they are not sharp, so many US are calling me when my beam is pointing to EU. I remember how sharp is Gilles DB42 so sometimes it's not fair to have a signal dropped just 15-20 degrees outside beam direction)))

Regards 20m/15m.: That's true. The 15m was not good for me due to some propagation. Looks like there was a low angle so Gilles' antenna was good but mine (it's only 12m high) was not. I tried to raise a run on 15m but could not get a good rate over 80 q/h. On 20m was around 100-120 q/h constantly so I kept this band. In WPX actually doesn't matter what a band to be used. As Gilles told - 80-40m band should be worked out on 100% and all the other bands are  just complimentary ))

More SO2R talk on the reflector of the CGQ, this is very nice to see.

Hi Fabi,

Few pictures about my SO2R setup:

Re:CQ WPX CW 2015 - 2015/06/02 14:12 Gilles, Victor, congratulations on your amazing scores guys!
I like your strategy report Gilles - something to learn from.
Sorry to hear about your dog. He was very nice and friendly and will be missed.

Nice SO2R setup Victor but I would be careful of thunderstorms.

Re:CQ WPX CW 2015 - 2015/06/02 19:19 Hi Victor.
Thanks for all the info. I have RUN more often this year and
can see the difference. For sure propagation is not the same
for all, propagation by itself, antenna angle as Gilles said etc.
Often I can see 10 or 15m band map full, and guys from QBC doing
QSO while it's dead here.

For sure I will try to improve antenna setup this summer.
I already have some tools for SO2R, same FN-6 relay switching as you,
plus a  new Bandpasser controlled by a MicroHam Station Master.
I should test all that this fall.

I dont expect to get the 2K QSO since I can not stay on the chair
as long as you do guys but still be fun.
