Re:VA2RAC IARU 2008 SCORES - 2008/07/16 10:17 Thanks Gilles for the nice feedback.

I'm agree with you that the communication should be better and logs should be synchronized.

For example I gone QRT 40m CW after 5:00 pm when sunrise just started. The new stations number dropped down 20/hrs. Even if I tried to complex S/P together with run on CQ. I was tired to death since I got just only 25 minutes rest time since the contest started. So I was almost sleeping and waked up when the new station appeared on the band ))) I planed to concentrated just only on 40m - cw band and to have a good rest during daytime. But we did some band plan changes and I got 10cw as nobody can take that efficiently.  Anyway the new one fresh operator could pick up 40-50 new stations and may be new zones on Western directions on 40. In our case you could just start CQ on 40cw. So you've been calling by new stations only. But I'm agree that's not good. Should be good communication between operators.

I didn't compare our team to DA0HQ. Unfortunately we are too far from theres set up, position, discipline etc to be compared. I think that the best operators in the country were in the team since all Germany is in the same zone. And they have enough operators to cover the band by main run position and few multipliers hunters. That was just an example how good everything could be organized.

I have a very good M/S experience from period of 1980-1990 when I was a member of the RK3AWC team. But the M/M is the real new one! I really enjoyed working as a part of VA2RAC.

Next:

- Do we want to do more MM contests...
- Do we want to get some serious scores...
- Do we want to put CGQ on the MAP...

So my personal answers:

1. Sure I'd like to participate again in VA2RAC M/M team (or other HQ call - no difference for me at all).

2. Sure We should participate with a good target - TO WIN. We need better then just "serious scores" for that  - we need THE BEST SCORES to win.))))

As someone would like to get in just for fun better to run individually and to give points to the HQ station or provide a cluster support. Actually the real contesting it's a huge and hard work. Before test and during the test as well.

3. "Do we want to put CGQ on the MAP..." I don't understand that.

If that's for logging software I agree to buy Wintest. NP.

JP I'm going to upload our results to the 3830 mailing list. Thanks a lot for the SOAPBOX test. That's good.

Noel has sent me the final log. I'm going to send it to the ARRL today. If someone has some corrections please send them to me. Noel thanks for the good work on  merging logs and especially for the analysis.

Victor

Re:VA2RAC IARU 2008 SCORES - 2008/07/16 10:43 After reading all the excellent commentaries here, I couldn't be more agree with the issue we need only one log connected in real time, I have operated  many time before  in MM  category from K3LR, HC8N and LT1F,. as all this operation were in same place of course we using same log,  some month before the operation, between  the team leader and the ops, we choose the log and for the contest time everybody have lot of hours of experience in the log to use (of course there are many question to answer just before the contest , but the most important feature are knew for everybody).     Not only we need to operate in a team we need to works as a team,  as Noel says, if somebody need to do something, another could take the place, etc, as I did with VA2WDQ and VA2SG and other did also the same, but with only one log in real time it will be perfect..

From my point of view,  the "ideal" in this contest is having an operator per band and mode and one backup.  At my home, it was very difficult to cover 5 band/modes  with 2 or 3 ops, but  as we were a little short of operators/ stations and we need to do that.. I apologize because my station wasn't ready for a real SO3R (I have working the radios and amplifiers borrowed from local, only a couple of day before the contest), My wife and me finished to set-up the station around 3AM on Saturday 12th, went to sleep for 4 hours and try to make a full 24 hours effort was impossible for me this year.  I love multi-operation in contest, that was the reason that I was very happy having some people operating at VE2DWA , since my 1st CQWW in 1986 I haven't missed anyone of the CQWW, but only 6 of these contest were made as SO.

I'm not disagree with the call VA2RAC, I don't like the prefix VA (too many confusion), only we need more pre - contest advertising of our operation, because in most of my QSOs, when the people get right VA2RAC, it was natural the exchange RAC,  at least in my 110 CW QSOs, nobody ask for the exchange repeat.

Everybody in the CGQ had done a big effort in this successful operation, if you read the comments in 3830, some operator made comments about VA2RAC was everywhere, I've received some direct e-mail with congratulation for the excellent VA2RAC operation, I'm guessing it was the first time that the VE2/VA2 operating 12 bands modes in IARU as HQ and that will put CGQ in all the contest world as a big contest group, of course we need more planning, more strategy, etc, we need to meet all  together in some place to talk well in advance before our next multi-op contesting, In my case I'm planning to start doing as much multi-op contesting from home, trying to have a great team working as a real team;  not only with VE2GK & VA2UK (with LW8EXF we have been doing contesting together since 1994), also I'm planning to invite some other locals that maybe could be interested in the activity.

Next contest to operate as VA2RAC could be Canada Winter (the rules allow to M-M operate in all the province ) , why not to try to do a MM similar to IARU, but trying to start to improve our MM operation, using our actual experience.

We need to send to 3830 the summary of our score, that will help to show to all the the people about CGQ operation great operation as VA2RAC.

Re:VA2RAC IARU 2008 SCORES - 2008/07/18 16:33 Hello all.
Just coming back from camping in Carleton.
Too bad I did not had my radio, monitored on a small Sony SW radio
and reception was so good near water.

Boy lot to read on the our site, all interesting.
Dont worry guys this was only a practice hi.
It was nice to use RAC callsign but when contest callsign will be available
our group will have one, maybe CG2Q  hi and we could use it in MM.

Will still be busy this week, we came back because we are waiting for
some visitors coming tonight for couple of days.

Re:VA2RAC IARU 2008 SCORES - 2008/07/19 11:49 Every comments is valuable. Yes, we have to be a team, not as a team. Here is other sample of a team competition:

EM5HQ Total: 10802 12190 216 289
Total Score = 25,309,085

EM5HQ team are:
UR0MC,UT7QF,UX7IA,UR5IOK,UT8IO,UR5MID,UT7MW,US7MM
UT5DL,UT9FJ,UT4FJ,UR5FEO,UR5FEL,UT0FF,UT2XQ,UT7XX,UT7GX,UR4LTX,UR5WMM,
UT1WZ,UT3WX,US2IR,UT3IZ,US1ITU,UY6IM,UU5WW,UU2JQ,UU0JX,UT7UV,UY2UA,UX2HO,
UZ1HZ,UR3HR,UT5UY,UR7HCX,UX0HX,UX0FF,UR5FAV,UX3FW,UR5FBK,UT3FM,UR7GO,
UR7GW,UT7UT,UR7VA,UR2VA,UT1IA,UY5HF,UW1GZ,UT2IY,UT2IJ,UX2IO,UR0IM,
UT2UB,UU0JM,UU1AZ,UU1DX,UU4JMG,UU5MAF,UU8JK,UR5EAW,UR3MP,UT0FT,UT5UGR,
UT7DK,UX3MZ,UT3UA,UU5JBO...

They had everything that we have to have: more than 60 operators, about 30 locations with HP equipment and big antenna farm, one N1MM log software for all stations, one team spirit for all. We cannot compet with such team today. But it has to be a goal!

PS. If my small backyard is a good place for BBQ meeting in September - I will be glad to see all CGQ members there! Welcome!

Re:VA2RAC IARU 2008 SCORES - 2008/07/19 12:59 ... HI Alexey,

you right... there is a remark on eu score VS NA score...

EU worked EU and band propagation favor all band 160 to 10m for them...
result in 1 out of 6 qso was NA only...

ALSO many Station on islands TM0 EA8 SV8 ... gain 5pts/QSO with europe mainland get only 3pts QSO they are on same continent. ... (IT SHOULD BE 5 PTS FOR EU TO NA AND SA !!!)

Here in IARU contest NA participation is very low  these years...
may be summer vacation take it all ! BUT propagation not favoring EU to NA.

So working QSO points is harder when every other country turn there antenna to EUROPE ... (sometimes I find ALL Asia is beaming EU )

We should see better IARU activity in a few years.
As West Coast starts hearing EU again...bringing more activity.

Meeting ... maybe   the hamfest coming in ST-ROMUALD I think it is in september if it is still on the agenda... could be a start ?

ANY MAJOR HAMFEST in MONTREAL  in the fall ??

I have contacted on of the EM5HQ team member. He told that they were using Writelog!

Anyway I think that N1MM could work over the Internet for M/M station. Probably we don't need Win-Test at all if N1MM would provide stable online log. We just need to test it well between our members.

Re:VA2RAC IARU 2008 SCORES - 2008/07/22 23:01 Thanks for the record info Alexey!

Thats is great...means CGQ may be the next holder with the 3M PTS !

You can provide probably a link over the internet for a number of station with N1MM wich is probably better in a close LAN.

I find N1MM heavy on the way it is build... I had many issues in the past where N1MM would slow down ... had to give it more priority.

The challenge is that you need to have logs in SYNC for timing in some contest.
Using 12 or more station ... Win-TEST group made a special utility server where all other station log sync to a unique server.

The other way around would mean 12 station broadcasting to everyother station...which is very slow over a WAN... it is ok when u have a few station only.

Just get together with N1MM and make the test with all the group while we have time... maybe you will get to the same conclusion!
