Re:Contests vs Topics - 2008/08/08 07:43 Hello Group.
I dont think it's a good idea to open a Yahoo site and keep this one open.
Yes, we are 36 now but only 12 or 13 active. We dont need a big site just to do like others. There is so many contest site. I think for now we have what we need
to perform and exchange infos. Just some cleaning in the "contest" topic would be okay. The day that we will be 99 and 80% active I will change my mind.

Re:Contests vs Topics - 2008/08/08 09:29 Victor I was thinking of the MIX mode. It could be a little confusing and would equal contest... Maybe we could only use CW, SSB, RTTY, VHF-UHF. If someone
is doing a contest in mixed mode, suppose CW-SSB, if he make more CW QSO he print his comments/report in CW. Just thinking... We would find it anyway.

Re:Contests vs Topics - 2008/08/08 09:34 Claude.

Thank you! I do think the same way. That CGQ web site is ours. On this web site everything is ours. We can manage membership, forum structure.. everything! Just make a decision what would you like to have.

Phil:

1. There are not too many new messages in the forum. And you always can see if there are new by following to a red exclamation sign on the left side. That's option is personal! If that doesn't work please check up if your browser can store cookies.

2. There is another one option the forum can send notification emails if new posts uploaded to a forum.

3. We have a nice search option in the forum (right top). Have you ever tried that  by using any keywords? Just take a try : CQ WW 2007 result for example.

4. We can do every forum structure we want. Please just decide what's exactly would you like to see.

JP:

3. That's so easy to upload pictures! Just spend few minutes to learn that. Actually you are admin here and can do a lot of things.

There are some Gallery requirements:

The uploaded picture size should not exceed 500 KB. That's our web server limitation since we are using sharing hosting.

The Gallery resizes your photo down to 550 pixels in maximal dimension. Just spend a few minutes in any graphical editor to resize your picture.

So I don't see any one reason why should we migrate to the yahoo.

Re:Contests vs Topics - 2008/08/08 09:49 Ok Victor, we are zero beat hi.
When we start the new topic,
CW-Contest
SSB-Contest
RTTY-Contest
VHF-UHF-Contest
Are we starting to zero or would it be possible to reroute old msgs in the proper file?
We could only keep 2008 mgs if it's too much work or even starting to zero wont be a big problem.

Thanks, 73

Re:Contests vs Topics - 2008/08/08 12:57 Claude,

You are right. To move all topics that's a big job since that should be done manually in DB. Anyway step by step - day by day I could probably migrate all old topics to the new structure.

So what's everyone decision? Should I implement suggested by Claude new topics?

Re:Contests vs Topics - 2008/08/08 13:04 Ok, as I am concerned we could start at zero.
It's nice sometimes to look back but I rarely do. For this special occasion I dont think it is needed.

Or we could RENAME Contest "ARCHIVES" and keep for few months and have
the new TOPIC on?

Re:Contests vs Topics - 2008/08/08 13:20 Of course we could not write or reply in ARCHIVE and all would be
killed on dec 31 2008

Re:Contests vs Topics - 2008/08/08 17:40 New topics section works for me. I would start thinking about a 'results' section and build it up slowly collecting past info so that everything would  not be lost. I could collect info about let's say rtty contests and someone else could pick up cw and so on. I think the bottom line of a contest is always the score, that's what most people want to know. National standings, continental, world . That would by itself create interest and challange at the same time where one could challenge a record holder and stuff like that. The CGQ standing worldwide is also another interesting aspect of keeping scores to see the improvements as time passes and as we get better and better. Don't forget: CGQ is about contesting!!!

I have to say that for the time been I do not wish this site to become a yahoo group since I feel that would kill the spirit of our friendly and familiar group.

Re:Contests vs Topics - 2008/08/09 01:04 Thanks for info Victor...

The word yahoo and moving shaked a bit getting ideas out !

I agree with all of you we are still small group...but it is fun to just get and read the last posting without moving in a tree search.

Now for getting all the posting during a day or a period of time...is it possible Victor to have an e-mail with all new postings ?

I tried the RSS on the page but it tells me Internet explorer doesnt accept rss with DTD ... now this is all new stuff that I dont play with...and I dont understand it.

Can you help me on this Victor ?

For gathering Results on CW results I can volunteer with some help to do so for major contest CQ ...ARRL ... and a few interesting like RAC ... few south and europeans ones but dont expect QSO party ! Also with a fixed list we can find the CGQ position leader by not the score but by the number of participation over the year.

Re:Contests vs Topics - 2008/08/09 23:43 Salut Phil,
