Contest Group du Quebec

CQ-M 2011 - 2011/05/15 10:18 CQ-M was my the first ever contest I took in early 1980 as SWL. Since that I try to participate in CQ-M every year if I have a chance. This contest is devoted to a memory of WW-II in Europe had been finished in May 1945 at the Potsdam Conference in Germany. So to make this contest to be some special one I was working kind of "vintage" style by using  my old rig TS-830S without cluster and bandmap )))

Congratulations Victor for your great achievement with your vintage equipment. I'm glad for having worked you finally (80 et 20m). When I contacted you on 80m, you had a booming +40db here, what a signal. I had at that moment only about 40W but the conditions were really good between us so maybe I didn't have a so bad signal sfter all. I didn't tune my 80m dipole before contacting you so I had about 2.5:1 of SWR and without linear amp online.

The conditions were not really good on 20m especially with deep and quick QSB. I hope the sun will revive soon. Not very much activity on SSB.

73 to everyone and have a nice week

Luc,

Merci pour les QSO's )) BTW you were very loud on 80 ))) I have a good take off to you direction (and to EU as well ). Since we have an ideal distance for the fist wave skip on 80 we can work I guess starting from 100 mW.

Claude,

he-he..)) HAM Radio it's a fun and why don't we try to bring up some additional options (QRP, vintage, portable operations etc.) to make much fun? BTW I like very much my TS-830S and prefer that radio for everyday use. I think it is still a great radio. I don't understand a technical progress sometimes. Why should we always design some new products by canceling without any regrets a really good old proven things?

Re:CQ-M 2011 - 2011/05/15 14:51 Hello Victor.
Yes the 830 have good reputation. Had a 820 that was already fun to use.
If good conditions this summer I will probably try to do some contests in
portable from my RV, low power of course. Operating near the sea, no noise
is sure fun.
