I worked VA8RAC in NT and his signal was "fluttering" maybe du to auroras.

Claude maybe the distance between us is right because you had an excellent signal here.

For all past 10 years I was fighting with 40m band - without any progress. So many different antennas for my small back yard gave me the best contest result as 10% of total points. And finally I did install rotary dipole D20 from Fabi on top of my tribander: the result is incredible! I can hear now EU stations (100W/GP) and they can hear me! Thanks a lot to Fabi for help! 73! We can feel the différence for sure.
What is the distance between the beam and the rotary dipole.
Have you noticed any change in SWR?
