Re:Alexei VE2XAA is SK - 2011/08/22 10:46 Dear Alexei,
I am speechless facing this terrible news. You were a true gentlemen for the few moments that I had the privilege to spend with you. A true ham and a great op, full of resources, always on one foot and looking for new adventures. Such generous person, always ready to help others...
Our thoughts are with the family to whom I offer my deepest condolences.
You will be missed my friend

Re:Alexei VE2XAA is SK - 2011/08/22 14:07 I could not beleive the title when I saw it. Dear Alexey, the CGQ will never be the same without you. We were proud to have you with us.

C'est une perte énorme pour notre groupe. Alexey était un exemple de l'opérateur parfait, j'aurais bien aimé le rencontrer en personne.

Re:Alexei VE2XAA is SK - 2011/08/22 18:02 I cannot believe it. Sad news. I had the great opportunity to talk to him in person at Victor's home and he had a really great personnality and sense of humor. Really a sad day for his family and the group. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Re:Alexei VE2XAA is SK - 2011/08/22 21:59 It is a very sad news.

It was so refreshing when, in the middle of a long contest, I heard Alex calling relentlessly "cq contest". After I answered his call he would always remember me and send a warm greeting. We were part of the same team, the same family.

He was so generous and always smiling. I met him only once at Victor's place for the first CGQ BBQ. I will never forget this calm and smiling man. I knew on this occasion that he liked making his own wine from fruits harvested from trees on his property. Every time I opened a new eQSL I received from him the tree and the fruits were there.

I appreciated so much the pictures he posted regularly on this site from places all over the world. And we found that he also had friends all over the world. And he never missed an opportunity to represent us, even sometimes by wearing his GQ t-shirt.

Alex, I will miss your "...- . ..--- -..- .- .-" or your "victor alpha two x-ray alpha alpha".

Hope the DX is good where you are.

I will miss you as I think all of us will do.

Re:Alexei VE2XAA is SK - 2011/08/23 18:10 A few weeks ago, Alex asked me very enthusiastic if he could take part to our VP6T expedition, we answered him that currently we were limited to five but we were keeping in mind his proposal.
He was expecting this answer but was a little disappointed. Today we are considering extending the team and Jacques was looking for its e-mail address on qrz.com. It’s like that that Jacques leaned and informed me of the very sad news and I am quite shocked by its suddenness.
If I knew, I would have been very pleased to tell him ‘’yes’’ and let Alex go away with this ‘’yes’’ in mind.

Only the previous weekend we were exchanging a few words in CW during the WAE.

Alex,

I will not any more have this little smile on my face each time I go to Laval via Gouin and see your beam just next to the high voltage Hydro cables and the heavy traffic boulevard thinking to the impressive results you were able to pull from it because you are an excellent operator.

I will not anymore hear your CW recognizable ‘’XAA’’ calling me and know that I have just been spotted because you were ready to help everybody.

I will not anymore be surprised discovering the new remote location you are transmitting from because you were taking advantage of every good moments of life.

But I will always remember you, very quiet, during this particular field day, under this terrible thunderstorm, still transmitting, alone inside the little tent with very close lightnings all around, in the middle of the night at the Arboretum Park. That year, thanks to your kind participation we got the #1 1A Canadian place.

We will miss you, hopping that now you have access to the secrets of the waves.

Goodbye my friend

VE2XAA de VE2TZT ... -.-

Re:Alexei VE2XAA is SK - 2011/08/23 22:13 This is shocking news, I was just viewing the page briefly today at the office with a friend, mentioning the pictures of his visit to TF land without understanding the reason of this page.

It is just now that I read and understand the full extent of the entire posting and this good picture of an A1 operator.

I always respected his operation and his gentleman way of dealing with a pile up… for some reason despite his 3 letter call, I will always remember the sound of his call sign heard so many times in a pile ups… that ringing sounded like a 10db push for someone running low power contesting. The dx station kept coming back to him like he was just alone.

My thought’s go with the family, my since condolences.

Alexei, I regret I missed the chance to meet a friend before your last expedition.  Will remember you,
VE2XAA 73 RIP

Re:Alexei VE2XAA is SK - 2011/08/23 23:43 Alexey was my friend for over 30 yeras... We go back years, to the early days of UK5UDX in Ukraine. Alex joined our club at Kiev Polytechnic University and started to change our antenna system right away. There is still his "monument" on the roof of Bldg. 22 of The Kiev Polytechic University - a 7 el. Monoband Yagi for 20 meters with boom lentgh of 27 (!) meters. Very brave project for 1980 ! His design entirely.
I remember we were building it 24/7, some guys (yours truly included) even missing lectures and labs...
When he moved to Canada in 1997, he was inactive for a few years, and I am happy that I kind of gave him a kick back to HAM Radio by inviting him to Zone 2 with me in  1999...
So many stories I can tell about him.
He was always a dear friend and a real gentleman. Technically skilled, positevely minded and very dedicated. He was so enthusiastic and full of plans.
I called him on Sunday 9 P.M. to discuss our plans for Zone 2 this fall only to learn that he suddenly died few hours ago...
I feel like a part of myself died with him... (
R.I.P. my friend! Hope you'll have a lot of Contesing and DXing fun up there in Better World.
