On essayera de faire mieux l’an prochain ...

Re:CQWW SSB 2011 - 2011/10/30 23:44 Bonsoir / Hi,

Wow! What's a fantastic conditions! I forgot about run and just did S&P more then 90% of the time enjoying chasing DX on different bands! Since I was not using cluster that was nice to work some DX before pileup after a first DX cluster spot. Unfortunately I couldn't be all the time in the air. Missed few good hours because some family obligations.

That was the first time I decided to go with LP (100 watts from my TS-590S) to a SSB test. Since I still use my modest small backyard antenna "farm" sometimes that was very tough. I missed plenty of calls and mults I couldn't get through pileup.

That was nice to hear you guys. My congratulations! Your results are just great! Rejean, we will definitely need you in the CGQ team for the next CQ WW )))

Re:CQWW SSB 2011 - 2011/10/31 10:17 Wow guys,
very nice scores!
I went to the station friday night to hear the action and it was a solid mess across the band. Actually made a few Qs on 40M S&P but not really comfortable with the microphone anymore and felt like going to a big party where you don't know anybody.
So great for all of you who had fun and contributed to very nice CGQ presence!

What a nice contest and great propagation.
I operated S&P unassisted with non directional wire antennas and
I had plenty of stations to work.
At times, making QSOs was like shooting ducks.

Phone contests are much different that their CW counterparts.
One station had my suffix correct but asked for my prefix.
When I repeated enough so that he got the prefix straight
he then told my call with a mistake in the suffix.

I realized how people are using a big part of the 10m band.
I started sweeping the band from the bottom to the top.
As I made my way upward the band it seemed that there were no end to it.
There was always a station calling upper in frequency.
At one moment I thought that I could progress this way up to the 6m band.

This contest was a great occasion to fill some spots in my DXCC and WAS accounts.

It's great to see such big scores published by our members.
Congratulation to all.

Thanks Victor to manage the team organization to optimize it's performance.

I'm now preparing for the two SS and the CW version of this contest.

Well here is our score. I am very pleased since this is the first time I made a serious contesting effort. We started only on Saturday morning.

10m and 15m were fantastic. We operated 10 & 15 all morning both days. 20m was disappointing since it closed quite early and 40m was just a zoo. I am glad we have phone privileges below 7.125! I was a bit disappointed in the lack of activity on 80m Saturday after 4AM, but we took advantage and got some sleep. But also my 80m sloper is not so good in receiving. I plan to improve this next year.

We planned to operate more than we did but we had to shut down the station for a few hours Saturday due to complaints of severe telephone interference from just ONE neigbour. We tried to explain that my cable TV and telephone system as well as those of my two tenant's upstairs were OK. The owner did not believe me so I had the Bell Canada technician come on Saturday and he found a MESS of old telephone wiring installed by the homeowner as well as corroded connection blocks and missing ground connections. There were jacks everywhere! The telephone drop line and box were all updated and most of the owner-installed rat's nest of wiring was removed. No more interference!
Conclusion: NEVER admit that the problem is your fault and ALWAYS hold your ground! Why can't people just buy a good cordless phone?!

Congratulations to the rest of the team especially Yuri with his fantastic score! I was happy to contribute to the CGQ team! Thanks Victor for your effort in organizing this and a big thanks to VA2UTC, and VE2OFH!

Re:CQWW SSB 2011 - 2011/10/31 21:20 I have to get back in here after seen the lastest posts. Really impressed by all of you with such fantastic effort. Yuri deserves a special mention for out-of-this-world score! but all have to be congratulated! Bravo

I cannot hold back here and allow me a little comment: I was reading on 3830 some of the comments of the folks. Between the lines you sense in some of the comments a little 'put down' kind of attitude as though this was just an ssb contest and that their favorite one will be coming in november...That's fine, so you prefer some mode instead of others but just because you couldn't come out on top of the list... come on! This is radio contesting guys, all modes are fun and full of challange. If you don't like it, well don't do it! It's not a secret my mode of preference is rtty ok but I respect and admire just as much all particpants in all modes. Long live radio sport and if you're to criticize well ... get out of the way!

Way to go you ssb OMs!
