Re:VP6T Pitcairn Island - January 2012 - 2011/07/26 17:26
Hi everybody,
You remember TX4T dxpedition to Tahiti last year. It seems that the team has appreciated enough the experience to involve in a new and more challenging adventure:
VP6T
For those not familiar with DXing, VP6 is the Pitcairn island prefix. The radio activity by itself is scheduled from 20th to 29th of January 2012 but will need a tree weeks period. We first need to go to Tahiti which from Montreal needs two days, then we have to wait two days for a weekly airplane to Mangareva Island in Gambiers archipelago which stays 1500kms from Tahiti. Landing at Mangareva a specially freighted ship will carry us in two days across the 500km of ocean which are separating us from Pitcairn. You have understood, it is a very isolated place.
The name of Pitcairn is far less known than its history. Pitcairn is the island were the Bounty mutineers had been able to hide during years. This story has inspirited tree movies and two novels which had been immortalized by the famous movie ‘’Mutiny on the Bounty’’ with Marlon Brando (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_R%C3%A9volt%C3%A9s_du_Bounty). With 30 inhabitants, Pitcairn is the smallest of Commonwealth and British overseas territories.
Pitcairn is a very rare DXCC entity, far more than Tahiti. It has not been significantly activated for more than ten years then, pile-up’s will be maximum and we are expecting to complete 50,000 QSO’s within ten days.
Two new operators will joint three of the four members of TX4T to form a five members team :
F6BEE (team leader), G3TXF, VE2TZT, FM5CD and F6BKV.
You can see our web site :

It will be regularly updated and you will be able to follow the progresses of our dxpedition. Messages are already accumulating into our Guestbook, it is very promising.
For memory, you can remember good moments at TX4T on http://www.fo2010.org/
